Father Don Kill

Father Don Kill is still in the USA for his annual medical check up and fund raising tour. So far Father Don has traveled to Los Angeles, San Diego Phoenix, Las Vegas, Dallas, Manchester New Hampshire, and Boston.

His next journey will be to the Columban Regional headquarters in Omaha Nebraska where he will join in the Columban Companions in Mission Gathering. Father Don will display there all the Lesson Plans, Radio Ads and many other things developed for the Columban Mission Awareness Program in Mindanao.

Father Don will return to Manila on September 12. He writes that he will need a vaction to recover from his grueling “vacation” in the USA.

During his annual check up, Father Kill learned that he would have to undergo surgery on both his left shoulder and his left knee. He is planning to have the shoulder surgery done in Cebu City and the have the knee surgery performed in the USA next July after the shoulder has had sufficient time to heal and become strong again.

Upcoming Events

Mission Sunday will soon be upon us. Each Year the Church calls upon all of us to remember our Mission to Bring the Good News of Salvation to All the World. Each of us are called to this mission, not just missionaries who are privileged to go to live in a land not their own and among people of another culture. It was that call to Mission the brought Father Kill to live among the poor in the Philippines and it was in carrying out that call to Mission that Father Kill founded Balay San Columbano. This year we celebrate Mission Sunday on October 15.

The week after Mission Sunday, October 22, we celebrate Tribal Sunday. On this Sunday we are called to work for peace and understanding among all peoples. It is in seeking understanding that we take the first steps toward peace.

On Tuesday, November 14, we begin the Novena of Masses leading up to the Feast Of St Columban, November 23. To learn more about St Columban, please go to the appropriate tab on the Home Page.

On November 21 we celebrate the 61st Birthday of Father Kill. May he be blessed with life and health into the future.

The annual gathering of Alumni of Balay San Columbano and all the scholarship students who went before will be held on Saturday, December 30 at Balay San Columbano, Ozamiz City. This is a day of reuniting and celebrating. All are invited to come. Bring your children. We hope to begin gathering information and pictures for our Alumni Page on this Web Site.

Students

All of our students are enrolled and attending classes at this time. We still need sponsors for many of the students. You can contact Father Kill - revdonaldkill@yahoo.com - for more information on sponsoring or co-sponsoring a student.

We will have several graduates this year.

Edison Clamonte will graduate from his course in Civil Engineering. Upon graduating Edison will assist other students in implementing the plans he drew up for a renovation of a house in Bacolod City. The house is owned by one of the sponsor of one of our students. By late June Edison hope to be able to accompany Father Kill to the USA to assist him after his knee surgery. If Edison is able to get a visitors visa from the USA, Father Kill will use mileage to get a free ticket for Edison to the USA. God Willing, while in the USA, Edison will meet for the first time the couple who have so generously sponsored him throughout his College years.

Archel Centino will also graduate from his course in Nursing. Archel will be going to Manila in October this year for several weeks of training the psychiatric nursing. Archel will proceed immediately to review his course so that he can take the Philippine Regulatory Commission (PRC) Board Exam for Nurses. Father Kill is trying to convince Archel’s Sponsor to attend the graduation ceremonies next March. Archel has been helpful in keeping Father Kill healthy for the last couple of years by making sure Father took his medicines every day and by taking Father’s Vital signs each morning before going off to school.

Roland Tacder will graduate from his course in Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education. After taking his Board Exam for Teachers, Roland hopes to return home and teach in the town from which he came.

Margie Gabutero will complete her studies in Care for the Elderly. It is hoped that Margie will be able to guide and care for Father Kill through his remaining years with us.

Reymart Marote, Ariel Langiras and Algen Langiras will all be graduating from Ozamiz City School of Arts and Trades High School. They will soon be making their final decisions concerning their college courses.

Rene Boy Eramis is making slow but steady progress in his special education course. Rene boy is much older than his class mates in grade 2. Rene Boy is 22 years old. He was never allowed to go to school before.

We wish all our graduates many blessings as they go forth into the world.
