My name is Janice Lumarda. I am 20Years of age. I am now in the 4th year of my college education at Immaculate Conception College, La Salle here in Ozamiz City. My course is Bachelor in Elementary Education. It will take me 1 more semester to finish this course.
I now live at Balay San Columbano in Ozamiz City. I am very fortunate that Lolo Father Kill accepted me into the Educational and Rehabilitational program at Balay San Columbano. I was recommended by my Uncle who was also helped by Lolo. Before I lived in Barrio San Isidro Bajo which is a mountain Barrio of the Town of Sinacaban in Misamis Occidental Province. We are 6 children in our family. My father, Warlito, is a farmer, but we do not own our own land. Because we have to share every crop with the owner of the land, my father’s income is only about $150 per year. My mother helps my dad work on the farm and also care for my brothers and sisters. I would not have been able to go to High School had Lolo not accepted me into his program. It would be really hard for me to stop going to school now. I am the hope of our family. My younger brothers and sisters will never be able to go to school if I stop my education now. That is why I work so hard at my studies. I hope that, when I am finished and become a teacher, I will be able to help the younger ones go to college also. My uncle helps with my fare to school and helps Lolo with my food when he can. My family only eats once or twice a day and often have to go into debt just to do that. I thank God for the blessing of Lolo Father Kill and all those who have given me hope for my family.
